Considering a mastermind?

Hey Reader,

If you’re serious about growing your side hustle, one of the best investments you can make is joining something like a mastermind or community. Why? Because surrounding yourself with like-minded people is a game-changer.

What's a mastermind?

A mastermind is a small group of people who meet regularly to support, learn from, and encourage each other in their goals. Members are typically working toward similar goals, or at least connected through similar interests, industries, levels of experience, etc.

Meetings are typically structured and geared toward providing valuable support to members.

Meetings can be in person, but in today's world they are typically run on Zoom or another video platform. The ongoing needs of the group - such as posting agendas and meeting notes and communication in between meetings, are usually managed through platforms like a Facebook Group, Slack channel, Whatsapp, Discord, or a community-specific platform like Circle.

We run 3 different masterminds at Teach Better.

  • Our School Administrators Mastermind is managed via a Facebook Group. Weekly meetings are run on Zoom.
  • Our EDUcreator Club Mastermind is managed on the Circle platform and the weekly meetings are on Zoom.
  • Our EDUcreator Club MBA Program is also managed on Circle, with meetings on Zoom.

Both of the EDUcreator Club masterminds are housed within our EDUcreator Club+ Community, which is managed on Circle.

There are many other ways masterminds might be managed, but I wanted to share how we do it.

Don't do it alone.

Whether a mastermind or community is the right fit for you, the point I want you to take away here is that building a business or growing a side hustle can feel lonely. Don't do it alone.

I am a member of multiple masterminds, and also get to lead a couple as well. I get different, specific value from each, but gain tremendous value from all of them.

Why join a mastermind?

Here’s the thing: You can’t grow in isolation. A mastermind brings together like-minded individuals who are working toward similar goals. It’s a space where you can share ideas, collaborate, and get real-time feedback from people who understand the journey you’re on.

Accountability and Support

We all know how easy it is to make plans but never follow through. A mastermind keeps you accountable. You’ll have a group of people who check in on your progress, give you a nudge when you need it, and hold you to your goals.

Plus, they’re there to celebrate your wins and help you through setbacks. It’s like having your own personal cheering squad...but also like your own advisory board at the same time.

New Perspectives and Ideas

I know you’re smart, but sometimes we all need a fresh pair of eyes on our business. The beauty of a mastermind is that it brings together people with different experiences and expertise.

You get feedback from others who might approach a problem or idea differently, which can lead to breakthrough moments in your own business. It’s a powerful way to get out of your own head and spark new ideas.

Networking and Collaboration Opportunities

Ever heard the saying, “Your network is your net worth”? It’s true. A mastermind connects you with people who can help open doors, whether it’s through collaborations, partnerships, or simply sharing valuable resources.

The relationships you build in a mastermind can have a long-lasting impact on your business growth.

Personal AND Business Growth

One of the most unexpected benefits of joining a mastermind, for me, has been its impact on my personal growth. I expected the professional and business growth, but as I have learned from others in my groups, I have been able to push beyond my comfort zone, gain confidence, and develop new skills.

It's not just about being better at business or side hustling. It’s about becoming the best version of yourself as an entrepreneur...and a person.

A Safe Space to Brainstorm

Sometimes, we need a space where we can be vulnerable, share our struggles, and brainstorm without judgment. A mastermind offers that safe space. It’s where you can openly discuss challenges and get real, honest feedback, all in the spirit of growth and improvement.

Whether you're side hustling or full-time, if you're serious about growth, I highly recommend you seriously consider finding a mastermind or community that fits your goals.

If you need help exploring potential groups or which ones make sense, hit 'reply' and let me know. Don't do this thing all alone.

⚡️Things to Check Out

❌ The Wrong Way to Measure LinkedIn Success

  • 99% of people creating content for LinkedIn are chasing impressions. They're wrong. If you care about business results (not clout) you need a different metric.
  • Because the posts that get a lot of reach—broad, mass-appeal topics—are NOT usually the posts that instill trust in your target buyer and lead to inbound business.
  • If you constantly double down on the kinds of posts that are “winning” by impression count, over time you’ll end up with a big audience of no buyers.

🤖 Meta introduced the Spirit-LM

  • Spirit-LM is an an open-source language model that integrates both text and speech inputs/outputs.
  • The model aims to create more versatile AI systems capable of understanding and generating content across multiple mediums.
  • Meta says the model is set to address the limitations of existing AI voice experiences by offering a more expressive and natural-sounding speech generation, while learning tasks across modalities like automatic speech recognition (ASR), text-to-speech (TTS), and speech classification.

✅ Instagram Carousels Get More Reach - Here's How to Use Them

  • Instagram carousels consistently outperform single-image posts, leading to higher engagement rates.
  • Your first image is the hook. A captivating first slide gets people curious and more likely to swipe through the rest.
  • You can use photos, videos, or a combo of both in carousels. This flexibility makes it easy to get creative and keep your audience hooked.
  • Turn blog posts, infographics, and customer reviews into engaging carousels. It’s an easy way to stretch your content and keep your feed fresh!

Hey Reader, I'm excited today! I launched a new podcast! The Small Business BS Podcast is a collaborative project with a fellow entrepreneur friend of mine, Adam Witmer. We've been working on it for a few months and I'm proud to say the first 5 episodes are out. Episodes 3, 4, and 5 are all about websites: The 3 types of business websites, how to find the right platform for your website (I'm listing a bunch of options below), and a few best practices to keep in mind. You can find the show on...

Hey Reader, If you've been here for a while, you know I am (and have been) a very firm believer in the power of email marketing and the importance of having a strong email list and email marketing strategy. Your email list is one of the most valuable assets you can have. Unlike social media, where algorithms change and reach is unpredictable, your list is something you own. It’s a direct line to people who want to hear from you—whether you’re sharing tips, promoting your products, or building...

Hey Reader, Over the years, I’ve done a lot of things, started a lot of businesses, and had a lot of titles: record label founder, janitorial manager, fast food manager, concert club co-owner, marketing firm entrepreneur, and now, COO of a thriving 7-figure consulting business. Some of those ventures succeeded, and plenty of them didn’t. Some of those titles spark some really great memories for me. Some of them don't. But every single one taught me a ton of valuable lessons and helped me be...
