Need a website?

Hey Reader,
I'm excited today! I launched a new podcast!
The Small Business BS Podcast is a collaborative project with a fellow entrepreneur friend of mine, Adam Witmer. We've been working on it for a few months and I'm proud to say the first 5 episodes are out.
Episodes 3, 4, and 5 are all about websites: The 3 types of business websites, how to find the right platform for your website (I'm listing a bunch of options below), and a few best practices to keep in mind.
**If you have the chance to leave a rating and review, I would truly appreciate it.
Your Website
I've talked about this before, but your website is the central "hub" for all things you/your brand. It's the only place you have full control over what people see and where they are encouraged to go.
Your website is not controlled by algorithms like social media sites, so YOU have the control on your site. It's what we call "rented land." You don't own it and you don't own that audience. Your website, that's your land. You get to decide what people see when they get there, and where they are directed to go next. And you can use that land that you own and build an audience that is actually yours.
Building a website.
I built my first site on Geocities. If you don't know geocities, Google it and you'll find a bunch of pictures that show how awesome those sites looked. (spoiler: they didn't look awesome)
Later, I taught myself how to code in HTML, then HTML+CSS, then HTML5, etc. I've built dozens of sites by way of writing code, uploading via an FTP server, and hoping it looked good once published.
Today, building a website has become much easier and MUCH faster. There are a ton of great options for website builders that allow you to launch a clean, easy-to-navigate, mobile-friendly website in a matter of minutes.
9 Website Builders to Consider.
Whether you're planning to launch your first site, or looking for an update, here are 9 platforms that make checking that task off a little easier.
All of these options include a drag-and-drop builder, making them easy to use. They require no coding knowledge or prior experience. And they offer templates for a quick and easy launch.
They all have their differences and limitations, but I think you'll find one of them the right fit for your needs. Explore their features, compare their pricing, and jump into a free trial to play around and get a feel for which is best for you.
This list is in no particular order. I've played around with most of these at some point. They're all reasonably priced. Several of them have free plans, and most of them have a free trial.
Here you go!
Strikingly - Free plan available. Then from $8-$49 per month.
Webflow - Free plan available. Then from $14-$49 per month.
Carrd - Free plan available. Their Pro plan is only $19/year.
Last month in Las Vegas, 12 men ran through a pro sports-style entrance tunnel at an e-sports arena, took the stage in front of a cheering crowd, sat at desktop computers, perused a seven-page instruction book, and began -- furiously pecking away at Excel spreadsheets.
Their goal? To win $5,000, an actual championship belt, and the title of world's greatest Excel-er.
The actual competition involved solving complex puzzles, navigating mazes, and completing themed challenges, some of which required contestants to work on a rotated spreadsheet.
The final centered around World of Warcraft, with the contestants designing an Excel spreadsheet to track vital signs for 20 different avatars and progressing through a simulated game.
📸 Instagram Edits - Meta's Capcut Alternative with Not-So-Creative Name
Meta has announced a new mobile video editing app called Edits, which will be available in app stores in February 2025.
The announcement comes hot on the heels of ByteDance's CapCut temporary removal from major app stores as part of the TikTok ban, leaving creators scrambling for alternatives.
👀 Meta Denies Claims of Automatic Follows of Donald Trump and JD Vance.
Following President Trump’s inauguration Monday, many users on Facebook and Instagram complained about receiving notifications alerting them that they were now following the accounts of Trump, Vice President J.D. Vance, first lady Melania Trump, and/or the White House.
Amidst political division and in the wake of Meta’s recent changes -- including its decision to end fact-checking and enforce Community Notes as its main form of content moderation -- many users on Facebook and Instagram were triggered by notifications that claimed they were now following Trump and his political circle.
Meta has denied the claims, with spokesperson Andy Stone stating in a Threads post that “People were not made to automatically follow any of the official Facebook or Instagram accounts for the President, Vice President or First Lady.”

💡CONTENT CREATION IDEA
"Remix" Old Content to Create New Content
This is one of the easiest ways to create new content, and I think many of us do not use it enough.
Take one piece of content you have already created and "remix" it into different formats. This is often referred to as "repurposing" content, but I like "remix." :)
For example:
Turn an old blog post into an Instagram carousel post: Break down key points from a blog into slides for Instagram.
Create a guide from a video: Summarize the main takeaways from a YouTube or live video into an email or PDF guide or cheat sheet, or checklist, or ebook.
Pull quotes or one-liners from past content and create social media posts: Take the most impactful lines from a piece of content and turn them into graphics or tweets...err, sorry, X's (I hate calling them X's).
Expand a popular post: Look at previous content that has gotten some engagement or the most views and expand on it. Take a short-form video and dive deeper with a blog post of YouTube video. Expand on an IG post in a long-form email. etc.
The goal here is to maximize the value of content you have already created. You've already put in the brain power to create the ideas. Save some time, while still creating and share new value to your audience. That whole "work smarter, not hard" thing, ya know?

Hey Reader, If you've been here for a while, you know I am (and have been) a very firm believer in the power of email marketing and the importance of having a strong email list and email marketing strategy. Your email list is one of the most valuable assets you can have. Unlike social media, where algorithms change and reach is unpredictable, your list is something you own. It’s a direct line to people who want to hear from you—whether you’re sharing tips, promoting your products, or building...
Hey Reader, Over the years, I’ve done a lot of things, started a lot of businesses, and had a lot of titles: record label founder, janitorial manager, fast food manager, concert club co-owner, marketing firm entrepreneur, and now, COO of a thriving 7-figure consulting business. Some of those ventures succeeded, and plenty of them didn’t. Some of those titles spark some really great memories for me. Some of them don't. But every single one taught me a ton of valuable lessons and helped me be...
