Did you know this about bamboo trees?

Hey Reader,
I shared this with our MBA Mastermind the other day, and it sparked a good conversation, so I thought I'd share it hear.

We have had a lot of conversations in both of our EDUpreneur Masterminds around the idea of being patient. The reality is, this thing is going to take longer than you think, and longer than you want.

Success comes slowly, and often comes in waves both big and small. Sometimes, we feel a smaller wave and we think "this is it, it's all coming now" and then it drops back off. Heck, sometimes we get a bunch of big waves in a row, with a bunch of really great success, and then it falls off for a while...sometimes a long while.

All this up and down and waiting and being patient is one of the most common things that take people out of entrepreneurship. It's hard, plain and simple.

Anyway, I heard this thing about the Chinese Bamboo Tree. It turns out, for the first 4-5 years, all it's doing is developing its root system.

Now, once it's ready to go, it can launch up to 90 feet in just 5-6 weeks, but for those first 4-5 years it looks as if nothing is happening. To someone who doesn't know about the tree, it can look like it's dead or dying or just never going to grow.

This made me think about business.

For so many (the majority) businesses, it can take a long time and a whole lot of effort just to grow the systems and foundations of your work, before you really start to "see" the growth.

Now, I wish I could say it'll take 4-5 years and then your business will explode, but that's where the metaphor breaks down a little.

The reality is, we have no idea how long it will actually take us to grow our roots, and we don't know how much our business will then grow, or how long it will take.

But what I do know is this: If you're feeling like you're putting in a lot of time, effort, and energy, and not seeing the growth you want...you might just be working on your roots still.

Don't compare yourself to the bamboo tree that is in year 6. Just keep nurturing your roots, building your foundation, and focusing on those you serve.

You might not ever shoot to 90 feet in just a few weeks.

But I believe you'll get there eventually. And I hope you believe as well.

I hope this helps.

I appreciate you.

Hey Reader, The other day I read that "The people most threatened by AI are selling information." That really resonated with me, because one of the core reasons we recently re-launched our Teach Better Academy (our online course academy for educators) is because we wanted to get back to a stronger focus on community and connection. Over the years, as our business grew, so did the things we created, the services we offered, and the number of tasks we had to get done. So much so, that we got...

Hey Reader, The other week, I wrote about trading your creativity for speed - Something I believe is truly harmful to the world of art, creativity, and business. More recently, I was reading an email from Jay Clouse and he said something that spoke to that same idea, so I wanted to share. (Sidenote: If you're not already, go subscribe to Jay's newsletter.) Jay shared 2 insights he took away from an interview that really connected with him. This was his first insight: Insight #1: The long way...

Hey Reader, Happy Saturday! I know I don't normally email on Saturdays, but I felt this was important enough. I'm excited to let you know that we now have 3 spots opening up in the EDUpreneur Mastermind, and I think it might be a good fit for you. If you've been dabbling in things for while, investing in yourself, learning, growing, and building something, you might be ready for a different level of support, accountability, and connection. The mastermind is where things tend to speed up for...
