Are you doing these 3 things?

Hey Reader,

Most new entrepreneurs I meet with say that a big challenge is simply not knowing “all the things” they need to be thinking about, outside of their product, service, or creative work.

If you're building something, big or small, that involves selling anything, here are a couple of those “things” you should be thinking about.

Protecting yourself legally.

If you’re making money, make sure you are properly structured to protect your personal assets. The worst time to figure this out is after someone is upset with you, so I strongly suggest you look into it earlier rather than later.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I am not a lawyer, so I won’t tell you the best way to do this.

Find yourself a good attorney. They will be invaluable.

Tracking and understanding your numbers.

The second you start making money, you need to know your numbers. Your system for this does not need to be complicated. Use a Google Sheet, or utilize free software like Wave or ZohoBooks.

You don't need to stress over your balance sheet, EBITDA, or your company's valuation. Just know what's coming in, what's going out, and when you run out of money.

Paying your taxes.

Do some Googling and calculate how much you should be setting aside and paying in estimated taxes. Better yet, find yourself a good tax person. They (like a good lawyer) will be invaluable.

The best advice I can give is to go start thinking of these things now. The more your business grows (and hopefully it grows quickly for you) the harder it is to catch up on this stuff.

Like with anything I share with you, if you ever want to connect and chat through things, just hit 'reply' and let me know.

I hope this helps.

Hey Reader, One of the most common conversations I have with newer entrepreneurs is reminding them that they have something special to offer others. If you're like me, sometimes you feel like you don't have anything creative or innovative to share. Or maybe all your ideas feel so simple that you don't believe anyone will be impressed or inspired by them. Here's the truth: Just because something is common knowledge to you, does not mean it's common knowledge to everyone. Prior to co-founding...

Hey Reader, Lately, I’ve been hearing a version of the same question over and over again: “Am I doing the right things?” Usually, it’s followed by something like, “I’ve been showing up. I’m posting. I’m emailing. I’m making offers… but it feels like nothing’s working.” I get it. I’ve been there too. You’re doing “all the things. Or at least the ones you were told matter. But you’re not seeing the results you expected. Here’s what I usually say back: First, you might be doing the right things…...

Hey Reader, We’re a little more than halfway through the year, and if you’re anything like me, your feed is still flooded with lists of the latest trends, marketing must-dos, and new platform hacks. Honestly? Most of it just makes me feel behind. So instead of giving you more to do, let’s try something different. Here are 9 things I think we should all STOP doing. Stop trying to create content for everyone. You’re not for everyone, and that’s a good thing. Your content should speak directly...
