Serious about growing your side hustle?

Hey Reader,

If you’re serious about growing your side hustle, building an email list is one of the smartest moves you can make. It is foundational. This is why I have sent quite a few emails about building your list and email marketing in general.

I believe in the power of email so much that I am writing this email - another one about growing your list.

Building on social media is great, but that is borrowed land - meaning you don't own your followers, those platforms do. You own your email list. You have control about what goes our and what doesn't. Your list is a direct line to people who are interested in what you offer.

But, what if you're just getting going? How do you get started building an email list?

Here are a few quick tips:

Offer Something Valuable

People won’t just hand over their email address for nothing. Offer a lead magnet—something valuable like a free resource, guide, or checklist that aligns with your audience’s needs. Make it easy to say yes to.

Here's a past newsletter where I shared 3 ways we've grown our email list.

Make It Easy to Sign Up

Make your opt-in forms easy to find on your website and social channels. A simple, eye-catching form on your homepage or landing page can work wonders. Less is more here—all you need is their first name and their email. Keep it quick and easy. (every additional piece of info you ask for lowers your conversion rate)

Promote Your List

Don’t be shy! Share your opt-in link in your social media bios, at the end of blog posts, or in your videos. Tell your audience what they’ll get by joining your list—whether it’s exclusive tips, early access to content, special offers, or niche content that will solve a pain point of theirs.

Engage Consistently

Once people sign up, stay connected. and stay consistent. Send regular emails that deliver value, whether it’s useful content, behind-the-scenes insights, or updates on your side hustle. The key is building trust and staying top of mind.

Here's another past newsletter - on staying consistent.

Building your list takes time, but every subscriber is one step closer to growing your business. Start today, stay consistent, and let me know how it's going!

⚡️Things to Check Out

💡 How to create "helpful" content, according to Google's framework.

  • The rise of AI tools like ChatGPT has made it easier than ever to produce content quickly — and it shows.
  • Search results are now crowded with repetitive, surface-level articles prioritizing speed and SEO over value.
  • For brands, this can mean sacrificing depth and audience connection for the convenience of automation.
  • Google’s Helpful Content Updates in 2022 and 2023 sent a clear message: content should serve people first, not just search engines. Sites that fail to deliver on this principle risk penalties and the loss of audience trust.

🎥 How to Get More Views on Your YouTube Videos: 13 Tips (With Examples)

  • Trying to get more views on YouTube can often feel like screaming into the void. (*“Hello? Is anyone there?”*)
  • It can be disheartening to stay stuck with the same 100–200 views.
  • Working toward getting more views on YouTube is only fruitful when you’ve set your foundation for success.

✅ 2025 guide to high-ROI social media campaigns (5 examples)

  • Social media campaigns are targeted, time-bound sets of social content designed to achieve specific business goals, like raising brand awareness, driving engagement, or boosting sales.
  • Unlike ongoing social media activity, social media campaigns focus on a particular theme or objective and often include unique KPIs.
  • Social media campaigns provide a unique opportunity to A/B test different elements—like tone, visuals, or formats—within a focused timeframe. Testing only one component at a time allows you to pinpoint what works best, helping refine both the campaign’s impact and your overall social strategy.

💡CONTENT CREATION IDEA

Teach ONE simple thing.

We often get caught up in trying to be appealing to everyone, and create everything. Instead, think of just one small, valuable skill or tip you can teach your audience in just a few steps.

It could be something quick but impactful, like “how to create a one-page website” or “3 tricks for engaging students at the end of the day.”

This kind of content is quick to create, and the bite-sized, actionable advice is perfect for social media posts, reels, or short blog entries.

By focusing on one small, helpful takeaway, you can provide immediate value to your audience and begin establishing yourself as a go-to resource, even if you're still building your audience.

This is also a format that can be easily repeated for a steady stream of content ideas!

Hey Reader, Ever feel like you're stuck, but it's not because you don’t know what to do? Instead, it's because whatever you're trying to create is just not “perfect” yet? Trust me, I’ve been there. As creators and entrepreneurs (and educators, for sure), we hold ourselves to high standards, but perfectionism can slow us down, big time. The truth is, waiting for things to be perfect before you take action is only going to delay your progress. I’ve learned that progress beats perfection every...
