✅ You probably need an idea locker.

Hey Reader,
Before we jump into this week's topic, could you do me a huge favor? A couple weeks ago, I mentioned the new podcast I am co-hosting. I would be so appreciative if you could leave a 5-star rating on Spotify and/or Apple Podcasts. It helps us get more visibility for the podcast and therefore help more entrepreneurs like you. Thank you in advance!
If you’re anything like me, your brain is a non-stop idea factory. One minute you’re working on your course, the next minute you’ve thought of a new lead magnet, a potential podcast, and—oh wait—should you start a YouTube channel too?
Welcome to Shiny Object Syndrome: Where every new idea feels like the one that’s going to change everything, and before you know it, you’ve spent hours chasing it instead of finishing what you were actually working on today.
The problem isn’t having ideas, it’s what we do with these ideas. So how do we keep our focus without losing the potentially brilliant ideas that are likely somewhere in that craziness?
Here are a few ideas that work for me (most of the time):
Create an Idea Locker.
You need a designated space to capture ideas without derailing your day. This can be a Google Doc, a Notion page, Notes app, or even a voice memo folder.
This way, when an idea hits, you can take a small action on it, and then get back to work.
I have 3 lockers - Sending an email to myself, giving myself a task in Basecamp, or recording a voicenote. (Emails and voicenotes also end up in Basecamp as tasks at some point.)
Schedule a “Review Day.”
Once a month (or quarterly), set aside time to go through your list of ideas. Most ideas will feel less urgent by this point, which will help you filter out the ones that aren’t worth pursuing.
If an idea still excites you after a few weeks, it’s worth considering.
When I do this, I start by getting all the emails and voicenotes into Basecamp as tasks. I then review everything. I typically get rid of 50% of these ideas. Some ideas will get left in my locker to review in another few months, and some will get turned into a more thought out idea and shared with my team to see if we should move forward with it.
Set a “One Project Rule.”
Before jumping into any new project, finish (or sunset) an existing one. It’s easy to get caught in a loop of 'starting but never finishing'. Commit to finishing something before you take on something new.
Shiny Object Syndrome isn’t about stopping creativity—it’s about channeling your creativity strategically.
Your next big breakthrough won’t come from jumping between a hundred half-finished ideas. It'll come from sticking with the ones that matter most.
I'd love to hear about your Idea Locker - Hit 'reply' and let me know how you're handling your Shiny Object Syndrome!
I hope this helps
~ Jeff

💡CONTENT CREATION IDEA
The ‘What I No Longer Do’ List
One of the best ways to create valuable content is to share what you’ve stopped doing and why.
Make a list of things you used to think were necessary but have since let go of. Then, turn each one into a piece of content.
Examples:
“Why I Stopped Posting on Every Social Media Platform” → and what works better instead.
“The Mistake I Made When Pricing My First Offer” → and what they learned from it.
“3 Things I No Longer Waste Time On in My Classroom” → and what they focus on now.
This type of content is engaging because it’s personal, reflective, and actionable. It helps others avoid common mistakes while reinforcing that growth comes from learning what to let go of just as much as what to add.
Happy creating! 🎉
