🛑 Stop Doing These 9 Things, Please


Hey Reader,

We’re a little more than halfway through the year, and if you’re anything like me, your feed is still flooded with lists of the latest trends, marketing must-dos, and new platform hacks.

Honestly? Most of it just makes me feel behind. So instead of giving you more to do, let’s try something different.

​

Here are 9 things I think we should all STOP doing.

​

Stop trying to create content for everyone. You’re not for everyone, and that’s a good thing. Your content should speak directly to your people, your target audience, your ideal customer. Get clear on who they are, what they’re struggling with, and how you help. Focus on that niche. The right people will feel seen, and they’ll stick around.

​

Stop never selling. Serving your audience and selling to your audience are not mutually exclusive. You can do both...you should do both. If what you offer is actually helpful (and I know it is), then selling it is an act of service. Lead with value, but don’t be afraid to clearly invite people to take the next step.

​

Stop talking in the now. Speak from the vision of where you’re headed, not the insecurity of where you’re starting. Even if you’ve only worked with 2 clients, start showing up like someone who serves many. That future-facing energy will shape the way others see you and how you see yourself.

​

Stop building on rented land. Social media is useful, but it’s not yours. Algorithms shift. Platforms break. Your email list and your website? That’s your digital home. Prioritize owning your audience. Nurture your list. Drive people to your site. Protect your business from whatever chaos comes next on X or Facebook or whatever other platform comes and goes next.

​

Stop repurposing content without a plan. Repurposing content is smart, but it still needs a strategy. Don’t just copy and paste things across platforms. Know why you’re repurposing, where it fits into your goals, and how it adds value in each format. Otherwise, you’re just making noise.

​

Stop trying to be everywhere. You don’t need to be on 6 social platforms and writing a Substack and launching a podcast and doing weekly livestreams. Pick 1–2 channels you actually enjoy, and where your people hang out. Go deep. Create value. Be consistent. That’s how traction actually happens.

​

Stop being afraid to pivot or change your mind. You’re not locked into the decision you made 3 months ago. Or 3 days ago. If something’s not working, adjust. Use the data. Trust your gut. Iterate. This is your business. Give yourself permission to change the plan.

​

Stop winging it. Even a loose plan beats flying blind. You don’t need a fancy strategy doc, but you do need clarity. Know what you’re trying to build, and let that guide how you spend your time. Focus is a form of freedom.

​

Stop being impatient. Your growth doesn’t need to match anyone else’s. Some years are for scaling. Some are for simplifying. Some are for catching your breath and realigning. Stop trying to “win” at someone else’s game. You’re not behind. You’re just building your thing, your way.
