I'm saying this because it's true.

Hey Reader,

One of the most common conversations I have with newer entrepreneurs is reminding them that they have something special to offer others.

If you're like me, sometimes you feel like you don't have anything creative or innovative to share. Or maybe all your ideas feel so simple that you don't believe anyone will be impressed or inspired by them.

Here's the truth: Just because something is common knowledge to you, does not mean it's common knowledge to everyone.

Prior to co-founding Teach Better, I started an online marketing agency where I helped small businesses with a variety of things including social media, email marketing, and website design.

So, making edits to our website, writing a little code, or teaching myself the latest language in web development all come fairly second nature to me at this point.

Even though my knowledge of these things is nowhere near an expertise, to assume that all of that is common knowledge to others would be a very obvious mistake on my part.

When I share strategies, ideas, and lessons learned over my 20+ years of starting and running businesses, I often question whether what I'm sharing is going to be valuable to you or not. The world is filled with a wide range of creators and business owners, all in different stages of their journey.

Some of what I share may be common knowledge to you, but if I were to assume someone who is just getting started knew everything I know after 2 decades of learning, I wouldn't be much help to them - likely sharing things that are not relevant to their business and provide no actionable value to them right now.

The same goes for the things that you do that may feel simple, easy, or not-that-innovative to you. There is a better-than-average chance, they are actually new, exciting, and extremely valuable to others.

All I'm trying to say is this: The fact that you are reading this. The fact that you create and share things, that you are trying to provide value to others. The fact that you are on this journey means you are not normal. You are not ordinary. You are extraordinary.

I don't say that to be corny or just give you a little "rah-rah" energy today. I say that because it's true. It is easier than ever to start a business, launch a side hustle, and create things. Anyone with a decent internet connection can do it.

Most people don't do it. You do. And that makes you absolutely not ordinary.

So the next time you're questioning whether or not that seemingly simple thing you know and do is valuable, please remember it very likely is.

You are not normal. You are special. You have value to share with others. And you can help people.

I hope this helps.

I appreciate you.

Hey Reader, Most new entrepreneurs I meet with say that a big challenge is simply not knowing “all the things” they need to be thinking about, outside of their product, service, or creative work. If you're building something, big or small, that involves selling anything, here are a couple of those “things” you should be thinking about. Protecting yourself legally. If you’re making money, make sure you are properly structured to protect your personal assets. The worst time to figure this out...

Hey Reader, Lately, I’ve been hearing a version of the same question over and over again: “Am I doing the right things?” Usually, it’s followed by something like, “I’ve been showing up. I’m posting. I’m emailing. I’m making offers… but it feels like nothing’s working.” I get it. I’ve been there too. You’re doing “all the things. Or at least the ones you were told matter. But you’re not seeing the results you expected. Here’s what I usually say back: First, you might be doing the right things…...

Hey Reader, We’re a little more than halfway through the year, and if you’re anything like me, your feed is still flooded with lists of the latest trends, marketing must-dos, and new platform hacks. Honestly? Most of it just makes me feel behind. So instead of giving you more to do, let’s try something different. Here are 9 things I think we should all STOP doing. Stop trying to create content for everyone. You’re not for everyone, and that’s a good thing. Your content should speak directly...
