I need to confess something.

Hey Reader,
I'm done letting AI write for me.

Let me explain. Actually, let me confess.

Over the last 6 months or so, I've used AI to write some of the words I put in my newsletters.

Actually, I've used it to write a lot.

I never got to the point where I had AI write all of my words, but I got pretty close.

At first, I was using AI just for brainstorming and occasionally helping me refine some of my rambling text. But then I started to notice myself changing less and less of what it was spitting out out.

I started to copy & paste a lot more of ChatGPT's words, and add fewer of mine.

I convinced myself it was because I had been doing such a good job training chat, that it was just writing more and more like me.

I was lying to myself.

Yes, it's true that it was getting better and writing more and more like me, but what I noticed was happening even more so was that I was writing more and more like it.

But it was okay. I was utilizing a tool. I was using AI for what it was meant for, right?

I was getting things done faster. I was saving time. I was being more efficient.

And more efficiency is better…right?

Then something happened.

Someone asked me about one of the points I had made in a newsletter, and I didn’t know what they were referring to. I could not remember what I had said.

And then it hit me: I couldn't remember what I had said, because it wasn't me who had said it. It was AI.

Recently, I had a chat with Dani Zacarias from SendOwl, during which she said something that confirmed this even more for me.

She said AI should take care of the stuff that is repetitive and time-consuming...but she added that we needed to keep "the hard stuff.”

The hard stuff is the thinking, the ideas, our vision, our voice. Otherwise, our voice and our ideas will all just become the same as everyone else.

People do not trust you because you’re able to summarize info into a nice set of bulleted lists. AI can do that with anything at any time. It’s replaced that value already.

People follow and trust you because of how you think, how you break things down, the ideas you have, and the voice with which you share those ideas with them.

They follow you because of your ideas...your voice. The hard stuff. The important stuff.

And no matter how good AI continues to get at mimicking you…it isn’t you and it never will be.

You see, improving efficiency isn't about just getting things done more quickly. It's about getting things done more quickly...the right way.

I had went past using AI as a tool to increase my efficiency, and slipped into letting it think for me, and speak for me.

I stopped doing the hard stuff. The important stuff.

I kept telling myself it was learning my voice. But the truth is, I was letting it take my voice.

I will never let it take my voice again.

This is my commitment to you. This newsletter will never have a single line written by AI again.

It will be me and only me from here on out.

I hope this helps.

~ Jeff

I appreciate you.

Hey Reader, A few weeks ago, I told you I had gotten to the point where I was letting AI write way too much for me. So much so, that I essentially removed my thinking from the whole process. I outsourced my thoughts, my observations, my perspective...my voice. So, I think I'm hyper aware of this now, because I feel like I'm seeing it all over. I can spot an AI-written post from a mile away. That's what happened yesterday. I was checking in on Instagram and a post came through my feed that hit...

Hey Reader, For the past 20+ years, I've been starting and running businesses. I've started quite a few businesses, but I've also worked a lot of jobs as well. I’ve done a lot of things. Started a record label, managed the janitorial crew of an 18 building facility for a multi-billion dollar company, sold life and health insurance, ran fast food restaurants, helped open a bar, co-owned a concert club, managed a coffee shop, and launched an online marketing firm. I’ve had some successes, and...

Hey Reader, Do you ever feel like your day is a never-ending cycle of "busy work" that keeps you from your most important projects? Maybe you're even to the point where you think you might want to bring on a virtual assistant or some help to get some of those "busy work" tasks off your plate? This is a super common conversation I have with entrepreneurs all the time, especially inside our masterminds. The reality is, whether you're a new entrepreneur, seasoned veteran, or just launching a...
